Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs – Your Questions Answered
What is a limited diagnostic prenatal ultrasound?
We offer limited diagnostic live-motion 4D ultrasound experience to provide a positive bond for parents with their unborn baby. We also provide a video and baby photos. Research shows that realistic surface images provide a connection between the parents and baby that can be beneficial to the whole family.
The ultrasound used in this exam is not performed to better assess the baby for abnormalities. A routine diagnostic examination should have already been performed to assess the gestational age of the fetus and for screening of genetic disorders and fetal anomalies.
Does this replace the ultrasound at my doctor’s office?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Women seeking a limited diagnostic prenatal ultrasound with Tiny Sprouts must already be receiving prenatal care with a healthcare provider to confirm their due date, screen for fetal anomalies, and to diagnose any other pregnancy related issues.
We include a limited diagnostic scan to confirm the gender, number of babies, baby’s presentation, placental location and measure the heart rate. Please note, at no time is this exam to be used in place of a complete diagnostic ultrasound.
Is it safe? Are there any risks to me, or my baby?
Extensive studies over 35 years have found that ultrasounds have not been shown to cause any maternal or fetal harm. Routine diagnostic scanning of all pregnancies is now a normal procedure. 3D/4D/HD scans use EXACTLY the same type and intensity of ultrasonic waves as in conventional 2D scan. If you have concerns about the safety of a 4D/HD ultrasound, parents should consult their obstetrician for advice.
Do I need an appointment for 3D sonogram?
Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services. For appointments after 5:00 PM, please call 2 weeks in advance since these times are most popular and book up quickly.
How long does the 3D 4D prenatal ultrasound session take?
Plan to be with us for 30 to 50 minutes. The ultrasound itself is generally 15 to 30 minutes depending on the package, and we need some time for the registration process, and to get everyone situated for your ultrasound experience.
How far along should I be before I have a HD ultrasound?
We begin gender determination in 2D as early as 15 weeks. If you plan on having only one 3D session, we recommend having the exam performed between 29 and 32 weeks. However, excellent images can be obtained at any stage of pregnancy! Many mothers opt for our 2-visit Platinum Plus package to see the baby’s growth from the second to the third trimester. For twins, we recommend scans before 30 weeks. Being well hydrated is the best way to prepare for your HD experience at any stage of pregnancy, so be sure to be drinking A LOT of WATER for several days before your appointment with us. 2-3 liters is recommended for optimal hydration.
Will I always get beautiful 3D ultrasound pictures?
In most cases you will, but unfortunately it cannot be guaranteed. Every baby scans differently, depending on the gestational age, position, amount of amniotic fluid, placental location and mother’s body mass. However, we promise to make every effort to obtain the best images. In the rare occasion that the baby is in a position and will not move, the mother will be brought back for a complimentary rescan at a later date. Staying hydrated by drinking a lot of water is definitley one of the main factors in beautiful, clear 3D photos. The water you drink creates amniotic fluid, and the more fluid the better the clarity.
There is a lot going on in the womb and the baby only has a little room to place hands and feet. Most always there is a hand, foot, or umbilical cord showing in 3D facial pictures. We try our best to get the baby to remove the hands/feet in case they are blocking the face. Again, if the baby is completely uncooperative and no facial photos are obtained during the session, the mother will come back for a complimentary rescan. We want all our clients to leave Tiny Sprouts happy with their experience!
Can I bring family and friends for the ultrasound session?
ABSOLUTELY! In fact, we encourage you to invite family and friends to attend. This is a wonderful and educational experience that will linger in your memories for a lifetime. The ultrasound scanning room will fit up to 6 people comfortably, not including the mom and partner.
For those family members and friends who can’t accompany you to your ultrasound, we offer SONOSTREAM LIVE! technology where they can watch your ultrasound session live over the internet from the comfort of their home or office, or watch it later at their convenience! SONOSTREAM LIVE! is a third-party company and will charge a small fee for their service.
Can you determine the gender during the ultrasound?
Yes, in almost all cases we provide determination/confirmation of your baby’s gender (only if requested). However, if the baby is uncooperative during the session and we are unable to confirm gender ID, we will schedule a complimentary rescan for a later date. Eating a snack and drinking a cold beverage before the ultrasound does help with getting the baby to move around in case they are being shy. We need the legs to be fully open at a “V” and feet un-crossed to determine gender in an ultrasound.
Does Health Insurance cover my ultrasound cost?
Unfortunately no, insurance does not cover this as it’s a limited diagnostic procedure and is not intended to be a replacement for your physician ordered ultrasound. These are all elective ultrasounds and not medically needed by your health care provider. You will need to pay this as an out-of-pocket expense. We accept cash, credit and debit cards, and online purchaging through PayPal.
